International Affairs

The member institutions of the Association of German Banks have offices in many countries or conduct business relations with them from their home base, e.g. in order to finance German exports. This goes not only for other EU member states but also for many more industrialised, emerging and even developing countries. While the legal framework of the EU already ensures a common market for financial services to a considerable extent, German banks’ access to foreign markets is often restricted in other countries. The Association of German Banks supports the liberalisation of its member institutions’ access to foreign markets within the framework of the multilateral and bilateral trade policies of the EU and the German government. The multilateral forum for this is the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Multilateral trade policy in the WTO

The Association of German Banks also represents the banking interests of its member institutions bilaterally on major foreign markets.
